The week in review and to come

PITA of the day: Hotmail. I don't know why the format needs to change every other month. Just as I get comfortable with how it works, they change it. Pain in the ass!!

Ugh. Anyway, this is a short week for me at work. TG! Monday was awful, yesterday was a little better as was today, and tomorrow is my Friday. I have my annual eye exam on Friday morning (time for contacts; enough of the specs!), so I figured I'd take the whole day off. I think it's supposed to be nice out so I'll hit the Parkway in the afternoon. That's where I headed after work today. Maybe I shouldn't have joined a gym right now. Of course if I hadn't the weather would be crappy and I wouldn't have anywhere to go. Whatever Russ, whatever.

Monday bowling - ugh. It was "work on your handicap" night for me. I had a horrible stomach ache that night when I got home. No more fried food at the alley! ha ha

Tuesday Mary and I went to see The Phantom of the Opera! It was fan-freakin-tastic! We had seen it 15 years ago on a chorus and band trip in high school. That was an unreal experience. We left the high school on Laidlaw buses at 3 am, drove to Toronto to see the show, and didn't get home until 1 am the next morning. It was horrendous but I am so glad I got to see the show. This performance was even better, and mostly because I am older so I see the story and music a little differently. Now I can relate to feelings of the characters including a broken heart. yuck. And let's not forget my wonderful opera voice; I can totally understand how competitive it is in the industry. ha! AND I, of course, shed a couple tears at the end of the show 15 years ago and this time was no different. lol I would see it again and recommend it to anyone slightly interested in plays and musicals. Next we are going to try to see "Movin' Out" and I would LOVE to see "Chicago"...I just wish Catherine Zeta-Jones was going to be in it here! ha ha

Tonight was pretty low key. I went to the Parkway to rollerblade, stopped at Weggie's, grilled a peppercorn steak (Wegman's is g-d awesome) and now just chilling on the patio. I can't believe how nice it is tonight. I can even see stars! Miracle. No, a miracle would be no snow this winter, but then again, that wouldn't be good for us come next summer.

Tomorrow night Scythian is in town! Yahoo!! They are an awesome Irish band that I have seen in D.C. a couple of times at an Irish bar with the sister. The last time they were in Syracuse I was at my company is God's country so I missed out. I can't believe they are back and at Kitty Hoynes! I love that place!! Well I am definitely looking forward to only one more day of work capped off with a night at Hoynes with Scythian - should be smashing good fun. ha ha

Now I Need a Nap

Well my first experience at the gym was traumatizing. I tripped going in the door, I dropped my keys and made a scene. Then I almost fell off the treadmill with a water bottle in my hands and I looked like a total clutz.

Actually that is all a lie. lol It was fine. I am actually not in as bad of shape as I originally thought. Must be all that rollerblading and walking at the parkway this summer helped. I fired up the trusty Nano and hit the treadmill. I walked a mile, ran two miles at about 6-6.5 mph, then walked another half a mile. Burn calories, burn!!! I didn't attempt any lifting today, so I think I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

It's a little chilly and gray out. It's time to hit the showers then measure the couch. Nap time!

All in Good Time

Go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face!

Ha ha I am having my coffee and watching "Uncle Buck" on this chilly Saturday morning. I am trying to caffeine-load and get motivated to go to the gym. Yep I joined a gym for the first time in my life. I of course had to use the gym at Le Moyne during my softball days, so it has been *gulp* 9 years since I have been to a gym. I still love my treadmill but it hasn't been used in quite a while. The last couple places I have lived haven't really been conducive to its use. And when the weather is nice, I prefer to be outside getting my exercise. But now, it's getting cooler and before I know it that pesky white stuff will be here. Working out will have to take place inside. I know what I want to work on so now I just need to get my assk over there. Yeah let's do this!!!! Plus I have to make sure my awesome dress for the wedding will still fit. ha ha

It's amazing how life changes. Take a certain period of time, like 10 years, and compare. 10 years ago I was 21, just started dating my first boyfriend, and loving life in my senior year in college. I didn't need to worry about money, I had awesome friends, and I was at the top of my game playing softball. College was a learning experience but my 20s were a whole new experience. Living in Virginia, learning from a long-term relationship, struggling with looking for and getting a job that would make me happy and pay the bills, forging and losing friendships, seeing how other people change. It's so crazy! Not that all this stuff doesn't still happen but at least my 20s made me a seasoned veteran. Now I have a better understanding of what I want and need. It should be interesting to see, at 41, what I had learned in my 30s! But hey I am in no hurry to get there. This decade may see marriage and kids...well maybe not mine. ha ha

Let's see what else is new. Oh I joined a bowling league! I love it! I never really thought I was even remotely good at bowling but I definitely enjoy it. This past Monday was our first night. I was nervous because I am the rookie, and I figured I would have the worst scores and need to make friends with my new teammates. I met Karen at the bar for a drink before heading to the lanes. My first game wasn't too bad - 120 was the final tally. I was having a good time, chatting with the team, and eating all sorts of bad food. My second was slightly better at 124. That is typical - first game is a warm up and second game is usually better. But by the third game I am getting tired and my scores plummet. My first frame ended with a strike. I was a little surprised. The second frame also ended with strike. Now I was psyched! The third through the eighth frames all included spares! I couldn't believe it - what had gotten into me! The final two frames went well but no strikes or spares, and I ended the third game with a 196! Four pins away from 200!! Argh but I was so excited! I am glad I didn't suck too badly and hopefully made a good first impression with my team. ha ha Now the pressue is on. Rats.

Okay it's time. Time to get to the gym so there!

Mending the Holes

The Fair blog is still pending. I have other thoughts I want to get out first.

I slept about a much needed 10 hours last night. By the time I got up I had missed Spongebob, so skipped right to the coffee so I could get my caffeine kickin' before heading to the parkway. I drank my coffee, ate the rest of my box of Kashi something er other, and watched an episode of "My Boys" that I had on DVR. (That is also worth a post; it was "My Boys" meets "Sex and the City" - it was so awesome!!) I then proceeded to gather today's outfit for rollerblading. And by outfit I just mean a t-shirt and shorts. But the t-shirt, though clean, was crumpled up in a corner and SUPER wrinkly. I had it on and thought omg I can't go the park looking like this? I need to iron it. I know seems silly but it was just one of those things that was bugging me. As I am ironing my Rhode Island Track Team shirt (I have never been to Rhode Island nor have I ever been on a track team; it was a $5 shirt at Champion - bargain), I see a couple small holes. Now this is my favorite shirt to work out in, and it got me thinking about how much it sucks to find such holes in favorite things like a t-shirt, sweatshirt, blanket, you name it. And the holes that are in places that you can't fix - they are permanent and you just deal with it until the holes become so big or there are so many it's beyond repair and you have to throw it away or hang on to it some other capacity but know it has served its purpose and may not be the favorite shirt any more.

Relationships can be the same way. It can be any type of relationship, too: boyfriend/girlfriend, friendship, or some family member connection. There may be a point early on or any time really in which some many holes are created or poked into the fabric that it is beyond repair later on no matter how much you try to fix or fill them back in with current knowledge from lessons learned. Either it ceases to exist or it is just never the same. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing; just different. When it is over for good, just move on and use that knowledge to prevent holes in the future relationships. It sucks and it hurts for a bit, but it's not the end of the world and something else or a new t-shirt will fall into that spot.

Thoughts from a wrinkled t-shirt.
