Catching Up

I have finally been getting caught up on movies and shows! Here are some of the things I have been watching:

Movies - Dreamgirls, The Devil Wears Prada, Catch and Release, Stranger Than Fiction, and Little Miss Sunshine. Out of that list, I think Stranger Than Fiction leads the way - I loved Will Ferrell although I must say the relationship between Ferrell and Gyllenhaal would never work...at least in my experience. They are WAY too different. One is very outgoing; the other is quiet and reserved...not a great recipe for a successful relationship. But I digress. Last night I just watched "Little Miss Sunshine" and it is definitely one that I liked after I watched it and liked it even more the next day. The end was shocking then odd then awesome! Olive's "routine" slowly became acceptable and likeable because of the participation and support from her family. It's different - you have to see it to appreciate it.

I also just signed up for Netflix yesterday. This is going to really provide the fix for my love for documentaries. Tomorrow I will receive my first gift from Netflix, a documentary titled "This Film is Not Yet Rated." I also tried to watch "Small Town Gay Bar" on my lap top yesterday, but due to my lack of computer saviness I couldn't figure out how to get the video to work - the audio was there but without video, gay movies just aren't the same. ha ha

My queue has a couple chick flicks but also a few Oscar noteworthy movies that I can't wait to see. I love Kate Winslet so I have "The Holiday" and "Little Children" next in line followed by "Letters From Iwo Jima." I haven't seen a foreign flick in well over a year, so I am looking forward to that. I am only have 8 in my queue right now, so I'll see how quickly I go through those before I ramp up another batch.

There aren't a lot of new shows on being that is summer time. However, some time before February of 2006 I was introduced to "Flight of the Conchords." Make me laugh and I will follow. I loved the show, so I was excited to see HBO decided to let us see more of them. This past Saturday night I brought up the old trusty list on the DVR and selected the first "Conchords" on file. The one thing that stands out is "It's business/It's business time!" lol Singing a song about getting busy with his wife who looks like she has been put through the ringer. You have to see it - I can't do it justice. I even changed my myspace quote to chorus of that song! I had to episodes on the DVR list and watched them both. I just remembered I have last night's episode - dang it! If only it wasn't time for bed. Oh well. Maybe I'll have time tomorrow after I watch "This Film..."

Well it's time to turn in. Tomorrow will be a long day I feel. I will work late followed by rollerblading at the park, dinner, documentary, and Conchords. Sounds like a great Tuesday!

It's A Classy Class

Today Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. I don't know a lot about them but I think overall most people know that these two players were great for their sport. Two standup guys who loved the game, played it to the best of their ability without supplements to boost their muscle, and seemed to be genuine human beings. I hope their will be more like them who can some how climb through the muck the loser players have stirred up and show pro players can still be role models. I fear what my kids will see, but I hope young players like David Wright and Ryan Howard can lead a new era.

That's all I really have today. I need to finish my coffee so that while I read the paper, the caffeine kicks in then I'll head to the park to do get in my rollerblade and walk session for the day.

If I was a Betting Girl...

I had a hundred thoughts running through my mind while I was rollerblading at the parkway today, but now my mind is blank. What the heck??

I think one topic on my mind was how much it sucks to break up. I know - sick of this topic but since I had to go through it again, it was sad and just stirs up emotions. Yesterday was an emotional day for me, but fortunately it turned out Jaime and Shannon were both available for happy hour which became several hours and a trip to the Casino. I am definitely feeling better and back to normal!

We started the evening at Kelly Cole's Improper (whatever that means - ha ha) for a couple of beers and dinner. Then we wandered to Dorsey's for another drink or two. Shannon wasn't drinking as it would not have been beneficial for the unborn child. Can't wait to meet number 2! The topic of going to the Casino came up; I questioned "how about tonight?" Shannon said I'm game! Sweet!! I had only been to Turning Stone twice and both trips were for concerts. I don't like to gamble - I am not exactly cheap but I don't like wasting my money (yet I still rent...but I digress). But I thought this is a good time as any to just hop on the thruway and see if luck was on my side. Apparently it was because Shannon and I hit the nickel slots and about 45 minutes later I was up $325!! I had $40 on my card so I cashed out at $365. This meant that I had three $100 bills, three $20 bills, and a 5. I gave Shannon one of the Twenty's and I put the other two on my card. That $60 was gone in about 10 minutes. lol But overall I won $265 - and it was my first time at that Casino. I played in Niagara Falls once but I only played and lost $10. At that time though, that was all I could afford to lose. I can afford to lose a little more now but I still hate it - who doesn't??

So today I thought I need to go spend my winnings. At first I thought about getting a table and chairs set for my patio, then the light bulb came on. My digital camera has been busted for months. I am not one to package it off and fight the manufacturer for a fix or replacement. I had been looking at news online this past, so I that $300 in my wallet should get me something pretty good in a digital camera. I figured I'd start at Target - I can't stand Best Buy for items like that. But then I remembered a little store called Ra-Lin. Love that place. I remember when Dad got our very first VCR there. And I have made several other electronic purchases from there. I got there, found another Olympus for $200 and forked over the cash. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Plus I can sign up for a class to learn everything I need to know about using my new camera. I figure what the heck - I hate reading the manual and maybe there will be a cute boy in or teaching the class. :-) I also get 20 free prints a month for a year!! F'in A, Cotton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent a ridiculous amount of money today. I did go to Target for a few things including some lights for my patio and a lantern. I then purchased a small table at Marshall's and two chairs at Dick's for the patio. The chairs aren't what I had in mind but they will do for now. That is where I am now. It's 8:19 and the sun has just fallen below the tree line and it is still pretty nice out. I am in my new chair with a glass of wine sitting next to the lantern on the new table. Life is fabulous. I am also attempting to finish a book by Laurie Notaro (title: "We Thought You Would be Prettier - True Tales of the Dorkiest Girl Alive") that I have been working on for about a year or so. lol Recreation reading during school was hard! I have to finish this one then I will move on to her new one, which I just picked up today. That one is called "There's a (Slight) Chance I Might Be Going to Hell - a Novel of Sewer Pipes, pageant queens, and big trouble." Should be interesting and hysterical as always. I looked her up on myspace the other day and discovered this book was recently released. I am not one to have bands, actors, comedians, etc. as a friend on myspace, but I think Laurie Notaro is cut from a similar cloth, so I made an exception to my rule. ha ha

Well I better sign off as it is getting darker now and I want to read a few more pages out here before the bugs decide I am the best dinner they have ever had.

Sunday the Way It Should Be

I love sunny, warm Sundays with no commitments or responsibilities on my plate.

I did avoid having to reiterate that my feelings are not going to change - I'm on relationship haitus, remember! Ugh but I am sure I'll have to deal with it tomorrow. Might as well get it over with...again! I'm just not that into you...see, it works both ways. Sad but true.

Anyway, this morning I rolled out of bed shortly before 10, and that was mostly because the cats were buggin' for food. Plus I have a cold so it was time to grab some tissues and clear out the overnight build up in my sinuses - colds are some of the most disgusting things on Earth. Germs galore! Ugh. You all know how I feel about that. ick. Not to mention how raw my nose is and it stings like crazy.

I fed the cats, made some coffee, heated up a Southbeach breakfast wrap (constantly fighting the weight battle - what fun - at least I am succeeding so that's encouraging) and settled on the couch to watch tv. I found "The Devil Wears Prada" on HBO. Perfect! The windows and sliding glass door were open so a nice breeze was passing through the apartment. The movie was cute. The main character, Andrea, becomes something she is not and realizes the changes are not who she really is. I think everyone should experience a similar situation. I have done it - it lets a person see what other sides he or she has to them. You may discover something you like! :-)

After the movie, I hung up pictures and art work on my walls finally! I got every room done - I'm shocked! I even got vacuuming done that finished off my cleaning from yesterday. Then I ventured to the parkway to get some exercise. I laced up my skates, grabbed my shades, strapped on the iPod and off I went. I headed toward the Salt Museum without too much trouble. However, the return trip was a completely different story. The breeze to my back on the way down became gale force winds heading back to the car. Good lord! I was dripping sweat by the time I got to the car, then decided to walk a couple more miles. By the time I was done, I ached from the hips down and my right knee felt tight. OMG I hate feeling my age. Plus I had one more stop to make.

I headed to Weg's to grab some groceries. I originally was going to grill some salmon and veggies, but I was too wiped out to cook. Frozen pizza was the answer. I have the rest of the week to eat healthfully. Pizza and beer - what a way to cap the day and weekend.

The Espy's...I don't get it. It just seems a little redundant most of the time. What I do like are the clips from events and games. I missed so many throughout the year - it's cool to see what I missed. Jimmy is pretty funny too! Good choice.

Well I guess I'll refill my water and watch this "Awards" show.

There is no title because well I have no goddamn clue.

Technology is driving me crazy . And that's only because I am not familiar with the issues that I have had to deal with lately. I have a new position as controller but now I also have to tend to our IT issues from computer to telephone system problems. It's enough to turn my hair different colors and not in an attractive way. Red would be nice but I am not that lucky. And now for some g-d reason I can't enough type a "title" in the space above. WTF! I don't know - I must be going through these difficult times for a reason. I know it will all work out - it's not the end of the world. It's a learning experience that's sure!

So I am still waiting for my diploma. I submitted my stupid application and $60 fee. They said it takes 30 business days. JC that's like 2 months in business time. Watch 30 days go by then have them call me and say I forgot to pay for something or find a gliche somewhere. Ugh - that seems to be the norm these days. But hey, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger...or something stupid like that.

Speaking of which, I have experienced another break up. This one was WAY different. I knew there was nothing there; I gave it a shot...a few times (it's hard for me to give up until I am 100% it's not the right situation for me) but it just didn't work. I feel bad because it wasn't exactly mutual but there is no sense in leading him on when I have doubts all over the board. So I am on relationship haitus. I am done with school but life is just as busy if not more so. It's bizarre - I haven't been home much since finishing school. I think because I had to be home so much to do school work, I hate being here alone watching tv when I have a number of friends and family I could be hanging out with. I have winters to hang out at home. I don't think the cats appreciate it too much; Madison keeps her distance but too damn bad. Life is too short to stay inside.

I love going to the beach. I went down for a few days a couples weeks ago. I came home on a Monday and went back the following Friday. I got home Sunday afternoon, got in a car with Jaime and Dan to go to the Daughtry/Staind/Nickelback concert in Saratoga - slept just about all the way there and all the way home. Great freakin' show though! Nickelback rocks and Chad K. is hysterical! Good times.

I thought once I was done with school I could get caught up with books and movies. That is not the case so far. The last few weeks have been a blur but that may be because of work. I would love to see "Transformers" - I didn't have any as a kid but always wanted some. I was an equal opportunity toy-player. I had girl toys like Barbies and CPK's but I also had some match box cars as well. I was open-minded even as a kid without any influence from others. ha ha

Well I am off to bed soon I think. The All-Star game is almost over. I would love to see the NL pull this one out but I don't have that much confidence in them when down by only one for there are two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Oh well I guess the Mets just won't have first home field in the Series this year.
